August 2006
Morning of fun for local Samoan children from Avoa Pre-School
On the 9th of August our boat, usually filled with 'palagy' divers & snorkellers, was filled with happy smiles & laughter of 30 people (mainly children), looking forward to their boat ride around Matautu Bay, just off Fagamalo & Manase.
Jim, our Australian local, organized this with us here at 'Dive Savaii'.
For many of the 18 children & their teachers, this was their first experience of being on a boat. They got to see their villages from the ocean view.
We made a stop by Wreck Juno, where we usually do our diving & snorkeling. Siaki, our local worker, gave them the history of this boat and pointed out to them the bits and pieces that can still be seen above the reef where the boat originally got reefed before a cyclone pushed it under water.
An 1 hr later, we made our way back to Fagamalo beach.
Did they enjoy their first boat ride?
Their smiles say it all.
